Today in Explore Nature, We had a wonderful day commemorating Tree Day, which is celebrated on March 21st. We were in Doña Mencía with the CEIP Los Alcalá Galiano school, planting two types of trees: carob and strawberry trees. These species thrive in the Subbética region.
Children of different ages participated in the activity, and everyone collaborated when we had to dig the holes and plant the seeds.
We were also joined by several authorities, including the Environment Delegate for the province of Córdoba and the Mayor of Doña Mencía, who shared this special day with the children. Baldomero Moreno, former director of the Sierras Subbéticas Natural Park, was also in attendance.
The school was incredibly involved, and the teachers collaborated with Explora Natura to ensure the day was a complete success. A group of mothers, accompanying the younger children, also helped make sure everything ran smoothly throughout the day. When we stopped for breakfast, we enjoyed some delicious homemade muffins. One mother also treated us to some pestiños, which were absolutely delicious.
Furthermore, we had the opportunity to enjoy the wonderful natural beauty that surrounds us in the Sierras Subbéticas Natural Park. A large group of griffon vultures, between 25 and 30, circled overhead for much of the day. This allowed us to marvel at the majestic flight of this incredible animal, which has a wingspan that can reach 2.8 meters.
We were also able to observe some amphibians, such as a natterjack toad that was enjoying a bath right next to where we were planting trees.
At the end of the day, all the participants left satisfied for having contributed to raising awareness among the youngest children about the importance of respecting nature, the role of trees in the life of the planet in general, and in particular ecosystems.
